Opening Day

Hello! I've created this blog to share some thoughts on the Montessori method. Hopefully, this will enhance your understanding of the Montessori philosophy. I would love to hear how this might have enhanced your classroom experience.

“Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world” - Maria Montessori

I've been thinking about this quote, and have realized that we as teachers have an obligation to expect the best from all of our students. The best for one student might not be the same as for others, and in this age of standardized testing and homogeneous classrooms, this can be difficult. It takes time to differentiate and to set goals specific to students, but unless you do, the students my not be reaching their individual potentials.

My goals for this week will be to look closely at each of my students, and attempt to glimpse their potential and find a way to tap into it through meaningful work.

  1. Being a proud pre-school graduate of the Montessori method, I'm very interested in getting back to my roots and learning more about the depth of this method.

  3. I hope someone will pay close attention to each of my children and see their potential, tap into it rather than squash it with the need to fit into a box.
